About Lamb of God Roles
Lamb of God is written for 13 vocal soloists, a solo cellist representing Jesus Christ, 2 narrators, choir, and orchestra. It is performed annually around the world by thousands of musicians across many faith traditions.
The work weaves together classical and contemporary sacred music in a narrated format, guiding the audience through the story with spoken text interspersed among musical movements. Rather than functioning as separate entities, the soloists, choir, and orchestra form a unified ensemble. At various moments, individuals step forward from within the group to sing or play featured roles before rejoining the collective whole.

Vocal Soloist Auditions
Vocal solos draw from both classical and lyrical traditions, emphasizing clear text, expressive phrasing, and storytelling that allow singers to convey the spiritual narrative with clarity and sincerity. When not singing solo passages, vocal soloists sing with the choir (unless directed otherwise).
For your audition, please submit a video of you introducing yourself and singing with the provided rehearsal track. We invite you to share not only your vocal talent but also your ability to embody the spirit of your chosen role through your stage presence and emotional connection. While memorization is not required for the audition (though it will be necessary for performances), we encourage you to prepare the music thoroughly to best showcase your artistic interpretation of these sacred pieces.

Narrator Auditions
Narrators are typically one man and one woman, though a single narrator may be used. Please prepare a dramatic reading of no more than 60 seconds, as well as a reading of the following assigned text. Some narration is drawn directly from or paraphrases scripture. Narration is delivered from a seated position, and movement is not required. Narrators should be engaging and convey the meaning and emotion of the text.
WOMAN:
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief. Surely he hath borne our griefs,
and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our
transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
MAN:
Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? Then
they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, Father, I
thank thee that thou has heard me. And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
Orchestra Auditions
The orchestra plays an essential narrative role, with several instrumental solos that stand on their own or directly complement the vocal lines. Each musician contributes to the unfolding of the story, and every role is integral to the whole. Please submit a brief video featuring two contrasting excerpts (30–60 seconds each).
Chorus Auditions
The choir takes on multiple roles throughout the work—at times portraying an unruly crowd, and at other moments shining as a heavenly chorus. Choral auditions for Lamb of God are intended for singers who are not currently members of the San Diego Saints Choir (SDSC). Members of SDSC participate in Lamb of God as part of their regular choir commitment and do not need to audition separately for this production.
To audition to be part of the Lamb of God chorus, please submit an audition video of you singing a hymn from any denomination. Sing the first verse on the melody line and the second verse on any harmony part. A cappella performances are welcome. If using accompaniment, please ensure your voice can be heard clearly.
