ABOUT US
BIOGRAPHY
The San Diego Saints Choir is an auditioned ensemble with a mission to promote faith in Jesus Christ, unity and goodwill. Founded in 2020, the choir strives for choral excellence in singing a varied repertoire of uplifting works in concert and worship settings throughout the region. The choir is an active member of the Choral Consortium of San Diego and highly values collaborative opportunities in community and interfaith settings that inspire harmony and service.
The choir is pleased to have been featured at San Diego Sings! with several other choirs and recently returned from honoring past and present veterans as part of the Washington D.C. Memorial Day Concert at the John F. Kennedy Performing Arts Center in May 2022.
A note about our name: members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints use the term “saint” as it was used in New Testament times, meaning a "simple disciple of Christ", rather than a canonized holy person. You do not need to be a member of the Church to participate in the choir or orchestra.
MISSION

-
Collaborate with community and interfaith organizations and other musical ensembles to build bridges of unity that inspire goodwill.

-
Strengthen relationships within the community by supporting the efforts of the Area Communications Councils and Stake Priesthood Leadership.
-
Strengthen the faith of listeners and ensemble members by expressing our testimony of Jesus Christ and His restored Gospel, and by providing opportunities for them to share this precious gift with their families, friends, and neighbors.
-
To help sustain and encourage the Church music programs established in the wards and stakes in the area by providing musical training opportunities as needed.
MORE ABOUT US
The choir consists of musicians from all walks of life who love Jesus Christ and great music. Our annual events include Christmas concerts, Thanksgiving benefit collaboration concerts, and the Easter Oratorio 'Lamb of God'. We also enjoy participating in devotionals covering a variety of sacred themes. We highly value our relationships with community and interfaith groups and love the wonderful things we accomplish together! Our free concerts enable all who listen to enjoy the Spirit that accompanies uplifting music.
The choir was officially established on February 14, 2020 and had our first concert scheduled for late spring under the direction of Dr. Craig Jessop. The COVID-19 global pandemic hit in March with devastating consequences forcing the worldwide pause of in-person singing for 18 months. Our premiere performance was a bit different than usual; our only option during that time was to produce a virtual choir video hoping to inspire faith and optimism. We went on to produce two other videos including a collaboration with our sister choir, the Minnesota Saints Chorale. In May of 2021, after counsel and guidance from regional church leadership and state officials, it was decided the choir could resume in the fall of 2021 due to the success and accessibility of the vaccine. We presented our first live in-person concert on Friday, December 10, 2021 wearing special singing masks to help mitigate the spread of the virus. We are so happy to be singing again (sans masks!) and look forward to the growth of the choir.
